Leeds Castle

Leeds Castle owned by various kings, queens and important or rich people. Here are a selection of photos from that trip. It is not actually in Leeds which was quite confusing. It was in Maidenstone in the south east towards Canterbury. The most recent owner, Lady Baille was bird obsessed and the whole house was filled with bird books and paintings. There was a bird of prey show and a large collection of caged birds to visit as well. We almost missed the bird display though because we thought we could take a brief jaunt into the hedge maze. It was deceptively difficult. The most hilarious thing happened while we were in there though. We ran into some boys who had an application on their phone to help them get out of that very maze! It didn't' help them though. They had to have their dad stand in the middle of the maze and shout directions to them. Stupid boys! We passed the same distressed looking little girl about 5 times, always going in the opposite direction to us as well. I don' think she ever made it to the centre of the maze. She may still be there now in fact. It was quite a blustery day so the birds in the show had a difficult time flying in the display formations. A few of them flapped into the crowd a little bit which was frightening. I quickly finished my ice cream before the show got too far because I was afraid they would come for me. We packed a fantastic lunch as well which we ate at the neighbouring picnic tables before the show started. There was still some people eating lunch when the show started and a black kite did an awful poo right over them. I couldn't help but laugh! At the end of the bird show we went into the castle and had a little look around at the rooms. They were nicely laid our and still very much in use for private functions. Here is a few picture from the day...

Here's the dining room table. Pass the salt!
