We were situated about 200 metres from St Peter's Basilica in the Vatican. We climbed all the way to the top of the dome. The view was spectacular! So was the line up to get in to the Vatican so we got up early. You can see the line up of people that went all the way around St Peter's Square. There are thousands of people that queue up to see it everyday and it is free to go in. We didn't see the Pope though, shame! Haha.

On the second day we took a hop on hop off bus tour to see all the big attractions. This is the
Colosseum. It was amazing and the weather was perfect.

Then we saw the
Trevi Fountain with was a mob scene. There were so many people jammed in around it. You are supposed to through a coin into the
fountain backwards over your shoulder for some reason.

This is the Tiber River with loads of other
monuments and old buildings in the background. I took this one from the bus. People seem to drive like maniacs in Italy! There was so much horn honking. Crossing the road is a bit of a death trap as well. You have to walk out confidently into the
street so that the traffic will stop. It is not a
pleasant feeling.

This Caroline in St Peter's Square at night. It is deserted at night which is quite nice. You can just stroll around it and splash each other with the Vatican water
fountains.

Here is a massive statue of Hercules on our way to the Sistine Chapel. What a well placed fig leaf!

A lovely ceiling painted with many smaller painting.
Everything was so ornate and
detailed. The upkeep must cost a mint.

A domed ceiling in the Basilica, I think...We saw a lot of elaborately painted domed ceilings so they kind of merge together.

This is the court yard out side of the Sistine Chapel. You aren't allowed to take photos inside but everyone seems to be. There are 3 or 4 men how go around and smack your camera down and tell you to delete the photos. They are very
aggressive but ineffective. You aren't allowed to take the photos do to
copyright issues. I took two pictures but they were both really blurry.

Don't even get me started on the food. I ate constantly! Pizza, pasta,
gelato, crepes. It was non stop and delicious! The English only see to have one sauce and that is onion gravy. It was fabulous to eat seasoned food. All in all an amazing trip!
