The Zoo

On our last day before summer holidays ended, we tried to fit in one last summer harrah, so we visited the London Zoo. Mel was working there over the summer so she got us in for free! I hadn't been to a zoo in a long time. This is a pretty old one and doesn't have all the animals I expected to see (elephants, alligators, non pygmy hippos, or rhinos). The cage areas for some of the animals are very open concept as well. The area for little monkeys, birds, meerkats and so other ground animal type things were all open. They can (and apparently do) escape quite easily! It was a fairly overcast day so there weren't too many people there which was great. It rained off and on. Here is a picture of Caroline among so giant birds. I didn't want to walk there. I can't stand birds on the best of days. I hate it when they flap up at you unexpectedly. These guys looked like they might do that with little notice so I ran over the bridge to get away from them. This of course stirred them up and they all flapped around anyways. Shudder!
I really like the tigers because they just sat right in front of their windows so everyone could see them. There are a ton of cages were you aren't sure if you are looking at an animal at all. These guys were just lazing around.

They have really curly ears!

I liked these cat things. I don't remember what they are but you could reach right in a touch them.

A piranha or two. They look pretty evil.

The warthog family all having an afternoon siesta.

And last but not least, the camel. We watched this one for some time. You could see her swallowing her food and then bringing it back up for further chewing. Because she has such long neck it looked like something out of Alien. Gross! I'm back to school now and things are in full swing. I love the fall weather. Now I just need to get myself back in school mode. I feel like I'm still on holidays. Perhaps mentally I still am.

A big happy birthday to Matty Hayes and to Nicole who's birthday is coming up. I hope you are having some amazing meals and wine to celebrate! Speak to you soon :o)
