It's the eve before the beginning of term. I am very nervous! I went out to the school to see what it's like and meet people. It was not exactly what I was told it would be. They said I would teach grades 7-9 but I have 8-11. They also said it would be a girl's college but it is a mixed public school. Neither of these things bother me, I just wish they were a little better organised. I start tomorrow with a full schedule of classes but I have no idea and have been given no real indication about what I am supposed to teach them. I will do a bit of a self introduction with each class and then...I don't know. Luckily I start tomorrow with a prep period. When I was going in to meet the teachers today, I stopped at the fish and chips shop and had a bit of lunch. I talked to the

shop owner about the kids in the neighbourhood. He said the boys were nice but the girls were bad. This is apparently a national epidemic. He said they often came into his shop and demanded free food. When he didn't give them anything, they would go outside and kick the front of his store. Charming. I didn't mean to but his story made me laugh a little. It's out in suburbia, it is almost a country school I think. The kids are probably bored around there. I have some of the low level classes to prep for
GCSE exams. These are the national exams required for higher education I believe. I hope I don't ruin their life changing exams for them. Yikes! The school system here is kind of complicated. T

hey have weird names for every level of education and lots of paid vs private options. I am replacing a teacher who's surname was Butt. That poor woman!
I spent this past week loafing around and enjoying myself in London. I went to several museums and visited everyone I know here. I rode the bus from my house to the end of the line in Oxford Circus the other day. It is like taking a 1 pound tour only no one tells you anything. I liked it. I like sitting on the second story of the bus just to see the place. I made a little note of stuff I would like to come back to. I bought myself a bunch of daffodils. I got home and remembered that I didn't have a vase. They are in drinking glasses through the house. It is nice and festive though I think. I'll write more once I have been to work for a few days and have seen how it's going to be. Wish me luck.
Here is a group of school children on a trip in the heart of tourist London.
This is the London Eye. It provides a pretty good view of the city and takes a long time to go around. I have always enjoyed ferris wheels even though they frighten me slightly.
After my trip to Tate Modern, I headed back over the Millennium Foot Bridge! which has a nice view up the river. The water certainly doesn't look that blue in real life though.
