Tomorrow marks Fall Equinox and will be a holiday. It was like Japan flipped a switch that is attached to some giant calendar because today it became cool, windy and overcast. It’s the first day that weather has been like this since I arrived. Fall just turned on because the calendar said so. When they tell you the date things are likely to happen here in terms of the weather it generally does. I never watch TV or read the paper because I don’t understand it. Things have a way of happening at a set time.
We were supposed to switch over to fall attire today. Most of the kids were in their fall uniforms and the teachers all wore jackets and long pants. The kids fall uniforms are very formal. The boys look almost militaristic. I didn’t get the bulletin on the style change although apparently it was on the news as a reminder that we should all start dressing for fall today. I showed up in a denim skirt, a polo and my purple sequined sandals. It was like wearing white after Labour Day in Canada. (If we actually took that seriously). Everyone gave me a bit of a stare when I came into the staff room this morning. I thought maybe it was school photo day or something. Sometimes I forget how different I must seem to them everyday. I will try and get a picture of them next week. I don’t want to appear like a stocker with my camera all the time! I took a picture of one f my classes during chior practice but it doesn't show the uniforms very clearly. By the end of the day, everyone is in a state a disarray. There are bits of uniforms all over the halls that they shed as they go. Happy Fall everyone!
