Marching in London |
We were on strike today! It might seem a bit odd that I am taking part in industrial action in an other country but I think it is important to show your support because you never know where you will be when you retire! The strike was a public sector strike on the issue of pension cuts and a later retirement age (Retire at 68?! Madness!). I saw a variety of good signs of protest. My favourite one was from a teacher who's sign said he didn't want to die at his desk. No kidding. I would say 68 is too late an age to retire. Do you want a 68 year old nurse doing 12 hour shifts and sticking needles in you? Do you want a 68 year old teacher dealing with 30 teenagers? It all seems a bit mad. Anyways, I was good to take part and it has broken up the week nicely. It feels like the week is completely more manageable once it has been broken up into chunks. I think we should strike every Wednesday. I got to go to the post office and the bank during regular business hours which never happens and I vacuumed the house completely before going out. I don't think I can handle the pay reduction that I am taking for striking each week though so I will just wait til the next one comes along. And there will be more...
